Help
EDFlow shows your emergency visit on your phone: where you are, who is looking after you and what usually happens next. Here is how to open it and what to expect.
A one-page guide in English and French for the waiting room or the bedside.
Open your visit
- Scan the QR code on the visit card you got at registration, with your phone's camera. Your visit opens in the browser. There is no account and no password.
- No camera, or the code won't scan? Open the sign-in page and enter your last name, your date of birth and the visit code printed on the card (8 characters, like ABCD-EFGH).
- Is this you? Check the first name and age shown before you continue. If they're not yours, stop and ask a staff member.
If your code doesn't work
- Check each character. Codes never use the letters I, L, O or U, so a character that looks like 0 or 1 is a number.
- Upper or lower case doesn't matter, and you don't need to type the dash.
- After several tries, sign-in pauses for a few minutes to protect your visit. Wait, then try again.
- Still stuck? Ask any nurse or the registration desk. They can pair your phone for you.
What you will and won't see
| You will see | You won't see |
|---|---|
| The step of your visit and what usually happens next | Your test results: your care team explains them in person |
| The names and roles of your care team | Your triage level or your place in line |
| Your tests as a process: ordered, collected, in the lab, back | A countdown: times are usual ranges, never promises |
| Requests you can send, like water or a blanket, and when they are seen | Other patients |
Share with family
- Tap Share with family and send the link with your phone, or show them the QR code.
- They see the step of your visit, a waiting estimate and your care team's first names. Never your tests or results.
- Tap Stop sharing at any time. It works right away.
Notifications, shared phones and after you leave
Notifications say only "You have a new update." They never name the hospital or anything about your health, so they're safe on a lock screen. On a borrowed or shared phone, sign out when you're done.
Your visit updates end a little while after you leave the department. If you feel worse after you leave, call 911 in an emergency, or call Health811 at 811 for health advice.[1]
Ask any nurse or the registration desk. They can help you use EDFlow.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install an app?
No. It works in your phone's browser. If you prefer, you can install the app later and keep following the same visit.
Can I still be cared for if I don't use it?
Yes. Your care is exactly the same whether or not you use it. Staff will keep you informed in person.
The screen hasn't changed in a while. Is something wrong?
Updates may be delayed for a short time, for example when the hospital's systems are busy. The screen says when it was last updated. Your care continues as usual.
Who can see my information?
Only your hospital's care team and privacy office. Your family sees only what you choose to share. Read the privacy notice for details.
